\nTOKYO (MacHouse) – MacUpdate<\/strong> (www.macupdate.com) is a popular website for Mac users. It’s a place where software users look for and find what they need and where software developers submit their products. MacUpdate has some unique tools that its competitor VersionTracker<\/strong> (www.versiontracker.com) doesn’t have and make Mac users go back. Whether or not a majority of software users prefer MacUpdate to VersionTracker, software developers don’t necessarily share the same view. In fact, if you ask us, we would answer that we’ve had quite enough of MacUpdate’s harassment. MacUpdate appears to intensionally withhold our submissions. They do lose submissions for sure. They refuse to remove existing software profiles. The worst part is that they will tell you to remove blog articles that you write at your own website. If you refuse, they’ll give you trouble.<\/p>\n

More than 15 hours ago, we attempted to update two software titles with MacUpdate. One is DVD2Browser<\/strong>. The other one is BookmarksX<\/strong>. The following screenshots suggest that these submissions would be reviewed ‘within a few hours.’ (See Screenshot 01-2.) These submissions have not been listed at MacUpdate yet. Most likely, they won’t be for the next 10 hours or so. So what has happened to our software submissions?

\nAnd what happened to the submission we made about 4 weeks ago? Back in January 9, we submitted a new software title (Junk-O-Magic<\/strong>) to MacUpdate. After waiting for more than 46 hours, we e-mailed them and asked what was going on. MacUpdate COO Misha<\/strong> replied

\nPlease resubmit it.<\/i> (See Screenshot 03.)

\nOkay. But what happened to it?

\nFurthermore, more than 10 days ago, we asked MacUpdate to remove the software profile of HomeSync Life<\/strong> partly because we didn’t enjoy reading the comment made by a MacUpdate user who called it ‘next to useless.’ That’s also partly because we were building a fully-functional trial version of HomeSync<\/strong>, which we made available at VersionTracker in January 27th, but not at MacUpdate. And what was MacUpdate’s answer when we asked them to remove the software profile of HomeSync Life? They refused. (See Screenshot 04.) We asked them to delist MKVToolPack Lite<\/strong> back in late October pretty much for the same reason, and Misha complied with our request. So why did he do it before but didn’t do it for HomeSync Life? If you take a close look at what he further wrote as shown in Screenshot 04, you will probably get the reason of his refusal. He wrote

\nDid you ever remove that blog post that I asked you?<\/i>

\nWhat post? What does it have to with HomeSync Life? Because of one article we wrote back in December that we have continuously refused to take down, it’s always Misha for some reason who replies when we try to contact MacUpdate. And he tells us to remove the same article almost every time he writes to us as shown in Screenshot 05-6. It’s not the matter of just twice or three times.<\/p>\n

So why don’t we just take down the article that Misha wants us to remove? We won’t because we have no ethical or legal reason to. Or at least he has failed to show one. We do have our own corporate policy to abide by that may conflict that of MacUpdate. If we had to comply with every request for removal for no reason, then why would we even bother to write here?<\/p>\n

So when are they going to review our submissions? We presume that they withhold our submissions until Misha personally see them.
