I was happy, my wife was happy, and everybody was happy to see the vast ocean to some extent. But… Water had retreated a mile back, and we couldn’t soak our bare feet to water. That upset my wife’s dog, especially. He stood on the sand and showed no sign of moving. That wasn’t good. He kept looking at me, and even my wife looked at me with her dog face, asking me to do sometime quickly. “Wait, let me check my backpack.” Whew… I didn’t forget to bring my portable Mac with me. So I launched Adobe Photoshop CS2, and in a matter of 5 minutes or so, we got some water at the beach.

<img decoding="async" src="mac/tutorials/photoshop_flooding/beach_1.jpg" "180" height="135" alt="Adobe Photoshop tutorial" />
BEFORE

AFTER

The photo used in this tutorial comes from PD Photo.org.

First, create a new layer on the layer palette.

Use Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) or Quick Mask (Q) to make a selection for the first wave.

Fill the selection with a light sky color.

Click on ‘Add a layer style’ button and choose ‘Blending Options.’

Under Blending Options: Cutom, lower the opacity level to about 12%.

Enable Drop Shadow, choose ‘Multiply’ for the blend mode with black (#000000)

Enable Inner Shadow, choose ‘Screen’ or ‘Color Dodge’ for the blend mode with white (#ffffff).

Apply Filter > Distort > Ocean Ripple (or Ripple) to decorate the edge of the wave.

Repeat the same steps above to create more waves.

<img decoding="async" src="mac/tutorials/photoshop_flooding/blending.jpg" "180" height="135" alt="Photoshop CS2 tutorial" />

Click on the button to download the project package (.zip, size: 3.8 MB).

Photoshop CS2 is a product of Adobe Systems Incorporated.

Last week, we had a family excursion to a beach.
