\nI met this young lady named Heather at a party which I attended a few years ago while my wife was out of town. She wanted to show off her favorite lighter. So she tried to light a candle with it. But no matter how many times she struck it, a flame never came out of her lighter. Eventually, her big smile full of dreams and hopes turned into despair. I wanted to do something. I didn’t want a simple mistake to take over her life and future. But what could I do? Right! I had my MacBook with me, so I launched Adobe Photoshop CS2. In a matter of 5 minutes or so, her big smile came back.<\/p>\n

The following tutorial shows steps to create a lighter flame. The photo used in this tutorial comes from Webshots<\/a>.

<\/br><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. At first, grab Pen Tool<\/strong> to create the shape of a flame. You can use Direct Selection Tool<\/strong> to adjust the path.<\/li>\n
  2. Under the Layer Palette, change tabs to Paths<\/strong>. Click on the top-right button to save the path if necessary. Then click on the button again and choose Make Selection<\/strong>. Set Feather Radius<\/strong> to about 5 pixels.<\/li>\n
  3. Create a new layer on the Layer Palette. If you have chosen Subtract from path area<\/strong> in drawing the path, inverse the selection by choosing Inverse<\/strong> under Select<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. While the selection is active, grab Gradient Tool<\/strong>. Set gradient colors to Blue, Red, Yellow<\/strong>. And apply it on the selection from bottom to top such that you will mostly have blue and some red.<\/li>\n
  5. Create another path and convert it into a selection. This time, fill the selection with yellow and white by using Radial Gradient<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
