There are many freeware and shareware titles for editing graphics. And t here are several well-known commercial applications for editing graphics like Canvas by ACD Systems, Corel Painter by Corel Corporation and Photoshop by Adobe Systems. Adobe Fireworks is just one of them, which I personally started using when I was a graduate student and purchased the academic version of Macromedia Suite 3 some seven years ago. The main problem with these commercial graphics editing applications is that they have so many complicated functions that beginners don’t know where to start.

Adobe Fireworks is not like its sister graphics application Adobe Photoshop. Fireworks is not intended for professional graphics editors. Unlike Photoshop, handling layers and image size is very easy on Fireworks, so it’s a commercial graphics editing application that beginners may think about using to learn basic graphics techniques.

This VTC shows basic graphics techniques through Adobe Fireworks. It’s not necessarily a Fireworks tutorial but intended to show you how graphics applications work in general. We start by explaining how to use Marquee and Magic Wand tools.
