D-Vision is a Mac-only freeware title that is created by
Objectif Mac. The current version (as of August 2) of 3.22, which was published in April 29, 2006, is in Universal Binary. Note that D-Vision only produces AVI-formatted video files. Its sister freeware title called D-Volution, on the other hand, produces MOV-formatted video files only.

D-Vision reads both TS folders and VOB files. After reading a TS folder or a single VOB file, you can choose one of the supported MPEG-4-compliant algorithms (DivX3, DivX4, XviD and H.264) to compress video.

Being compared with other video compression applications, D-Vision produces fairly good compressed videos even in 1-pass mode. Surprisingly, it will take some 3 hours to compress a 4-GB TS folder into 1,200 MB AVI file. (iMac 2 GHz G5 CPU with 1,536 MB of RAM)

Furthermore, D-Vision includes a set of additional functions called ‘Tools.’ One of the functions is ‘Join vob files,’ which allows you to combine multiple VOB files into one at a time.

So far I have found your site terrifically helpful, and I haven’t actually figured out how to get to the video clips yet! I have an old Powermac G4 dual 533mhz and don’t want to upgrade yet, and am trying to figure out how to burn dvds if I can’t run iLife. So far I have learned, through you guys, about d-vision 3 and some other options. Unfortunately the article I read here assumes that ‘there isn’t much to know’ about mpeg-4 compression, but I am finding running d-vision 3 a challenge since I don’t read french!
