It has been two years since development of Age of Empires III was first announced. One year after the PC version was released, the Mac version is finally out. And MacHouse has grabbed a copy and made a quick review over this game.
There was one big answer we wanted to know that we never found over the Internet before we actually played the game. Many fans of Age series, especially those of Age of Empires II and Age of Mythology, probably want to know how the multiplayer game function works, right? And we have the answer.
We played the first three campaign scenarios. We heard beforehand that the overall graphic quality is excellent. Well… We don’t really see it. The overalll game interface reminds us of a six-year-old PC game called ‘Tzar: The Burden of the Crown and Rise of Nations. Age of Empires fans probably enjoy using the Ram to destory buildings. Well, it looks like it’s replaced by Mortar.
Unfortunately, Age of Empires 3 doesn’t support ESO’s multiplayer function that is adopted for the PC version. It supports GameRanger again. Many Mac people have left the poor support and functions of GameRanger and buy the PC version of games and run them under BootCamp. The only good piece of news is that Age of Empires 3 runs smoothly on iMac G5 2 GHz (128 MB VRAM, 1,536 MB RAM).
