MacTheRipper is a Mac-only freeware title that can be used to rip DVDs. It is created by Geezerbuttz, whose site was moved to a new location in late April, 2006 . In fact, there are other DVD-ripping freeware titles for the Mac platform including 0se, DVDibbler and Handbrake. And MacTheRipper is one of the active freeware titles while 0se and DVDibbler don’t seem to be updated in Universal Binary.


The current version of MacTheRipper is still 2.66. Good news is that the developer is working on a Universal-Binary version. A beta version of 3.0 is available on a restricted basis.


Just like 0se, MacTheRipper can be used only to rip DVDs while DVDibbler and Handbrake proceed and produce compresed videos. MacTheRipper can produce ripped DVDs in the form of TS folders or a single VOB file.
