Why Blogger Keeps Being Exploited for Porn Spam

We found 25 porn websites hosted at Google-owned Blogger about an hour ago. So we wondered why this Google-owned blog service keeps falling a victim to porn spam?

We looked at one porn website hosted at Blogger. If we scrolled down to the bottom, we found two links to possibly other porn websites hosted at Lycos-owned Tripod (www.tripod.lycos.com). So we followed the links. We then found that they had already been removed.

The difference between how Blogger and Tripod fight abuse is obvious. You don’t have to go very far to find out how to report abuse at Tripod. If you just look at the top of the webpage, you can find a hyperlink labeled ‘Report Abuse.’ And if you click on this link, you will be forwarded to Lycos.com’s Support Site.

How about Blogger? Hmm… Just like AOL Hometown, Google-owned Blogger only allows its members to contact Help. Or you may be able to report abuse directly to Google. The bottom line is that Blogger is not so serious about combatting abuse. Who is affected by porn spam – its members or non-members? Well, we don’t have an account at Blogger. But Blogger’s members often attempt to post spam comments at this blog.
