Stopping Geocities Spam

Many months ago, we were innocent. And we posted a few e-mail addresses of ours somewhere on our website. As a consequence, affiliate spammers have harvested these e-mail addresses.

A simple and crude way of stopping e-mail spam is to disable the e-mail address. You can also go after those who harbor and/or finance these affiliate spammers. In fact, many financiers are online pharmacy retailers and porn websites.

Several days ago, a notorious Geocities spammer started a big campaign sending several spam messages a day by e-mail. An example of Geocities spam messages is shown in Screenshot 1. Fortunately, Yahoo! is now more serious than ever in stopping Geocities spam. So all you have to do is to write to abuse@yahoo-inc.com. And tell them only which Geocities account is causing trouble. (See Screenshot 2.) And if you wait for 24 hours or so, Yahoo! will tell you that an alleged spam account is under investigation. (See Screenshot 3.) As for Jemimaf6n (Geocities account), it’s already gone.

If you don’t act, you will keep being victimized by affiliate spam criminals. But with just 5 minutes of your time, you can make a difference. Don’t be afraid of these cyber idiots. They are only good at hiding themselves. In essence, they are only idiots.

  1. No, we can’t. One thing you can do to stop them from sending you spam messages is to destroy the domains that are associated with the invisible cyber idiot.
