On a winter day, I was emotionally exhausted and felt like getting away from everything. After stopping by a restaurant at the end of a road, I continued to drive till I reached a beach. And I then got out of the car and walked on the beach for a few hours, searching for the answer for my life. I sat and watched the waves that kept coming back. Then I realized something odd. A sand drawing appeared out of nowhere. I looked around, again, but there was nobody else at a winter beach. I shouted “Who the hell is doing this?” And I took a very close look at the sand drawing. It said MacHouse.

The following tutorial shows steps to create a sand drawing on a beach, using Adobe Photoshop CS2. The beach photo used in this tutorial comes from PD Photo.

1. Use Type Tool to write a word. Then apply Rasterize > Type to the type layer. Use Free Transform to adjust and distort the layer.
2. Select only the filled part of the type layer under the Layer Palette. Apply some feather and then fill the selection with sheer black (#000000). You may now release the selection.
3. Apply Noise > Add Noise to the type layer.
4. You need some gray, so apply Motion Blur.
5. Apply small amount of sand again this time to literally create the look of sand.
6. Use Adjustments > Hue/Saturation to colorize the type layer.
7. Next, add a layer style. Turn on Bevel and Emboss and also Texture.
