    1. Hi, We purchased a .iMac with the anticipation to use the infamous iphoto & imovie. We have swapped from a PC to a Mac and have .mod video files that were made and transferred from or JVC HDD (GZ-MG30) to our external independant hard drive. When i use the “finder” to find the files they can be seen but greyed out and wont play… I was told by the Mac support to download this VLC so at least i can play and see those files and then download mpegstremclip (which i have) to convert them to a compatible file format that can i can play and edit and create a imovie… i’m getting frustrated and have no idea what i’m doing or even if this is going to work. If anyone has some advice i would REALLY APPRECIATE IT….
      Thanks

    2. Change the extension of mod into mpg and see if VLC Media Player and MPEG Streamclip can read the files. If MPEG Streamclip can read the files with or without the extension change, convert the files with a different format. I suppose ffmpegX can also read that format. Another method of reading a mod/mpeg-2 file with iMovie is demuxing into audio and video streams. “Dealing with MPEG-2 with iMovie and Final Cut Pro” should take care of the issue. (video tutorial)
