TOKYO (MacHouse) – If you ask me whether or not I like Swift as a software development language, you won’t get a flat answer of Yes or No from me. This language is so bad that it can be terribly difficult to type just a few letters if you already have a few thousand lines of code. Or is it just me? Anyway, I’m ready to introduce a second application that I’ve developed in Swift. This new software release is called Oh My Gradient. I submitted it to Mac App Store just several minutes ago.

Oh My Gradient is a desktop application for software developers who use CAGradientLayer to display gradient colors with NSView or UIView. It lets you design gradient colors with your mouse and generate Objective-C or Swift code for your OS X (or iOS) projects at the same time. Oh My Gradient generates code for dictionary objects with color and location keys for every color stop.
Features
- Create tens or even hundreds of groups to store sets of gradient colors.
- Preview gradient colors.
- Save sets of gradient colors internally.
- Create an image (BMP, GIF, JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG, TIFF) out of a set of gradient colors.
- Get Objective-C/Swift code for an OS X or iOS project by opening a popover window.
- Customize variable names.
- Save export settings.
- Choose Download Sample Project under Help to download a zip package containing sample Xcode projects.
- Move the set of gradient colors you select to a different group.
- Duplicate the set of gradient colors you select.
- The application supports the fullScreen mode.
- The application supports the retina screen. (tested with 2014 2.6 GHz 13″ MacBook Pro)

- The application comes with a built-in 19-page user guide. Choose Show Quick Tour under Oh My Gradient whenever you need to see it.
System requirements
- 10.10 (tested with 10.10.5), 10.11 (tested with 10.11.1)
- 64-bit system
Limitations
Nothing so far…
Version history
Version 1.0.5 (Released on November 10)
- The application could crash due to the last changes made for the C-style for-loop statement.
Version 1.0.4 (Released on September 1)
- Many lines of code are fixed for Swift 3 compatibility.
- Another push button now appears to the right of the copy button when the user opens the code popover window at the bottom-left corner of the window. When the user clicks on this button, the application will create a float list of gradient color values, which will be copied into the shared clipboard.
Version 1.0.2 (Released on August 22)
- Fix: Preview did not change when the user selected a different color with the selection color button.
- Changes: By default, the user will be prompted for confirmation when clicking on the delete (-) button to delete the selected marker.
