Boris RED 4.1 Sample: That 70s Look

Boris RED 4.1

Last week, my wife and I watched 1995 movie “Nixon.” Anthony Hopkins’ performance as Richard Nixon is incredible. So is Paul Sorvino’s performance as Henry Kissinger. Another interesting aspect of this movie is the look of 70s footage. In some parts, the film is rendered in such a way that it looks as if it had been shot in the 70s.

After watching the film, my wife said “I wonder how George W. Bush would look in the 70s?” And she stared at me. Hmm… I thought I could perhaps do something about it with Boris RED. I called the White House, but Mr. Bush was not available for an on-camera interview. So I had Mrs. Bush, instead. After utilizing several filters, I somehow sent her back to 70s. Well, I probably need more practice, though.

  1. Here’s how to really make it look like 70’s-era footage:

Use original, 70’s-era motion picture cameras and film. This will make it look closer to the real thing than any Photoshop or Final Cut Pro plug-in ever could. Making the Laura Bush footage look out of focus and superimposing scratches on what is obviously video footage doesn’t look authentic to me at all. It looks FAKE.

  2. >It looks FAKE.

    That’s because it’s fake.

Perhaps, you can show your sample and impress us. It would be a good idea to use a real camera used in the 70s. But we don’t have one. And we are only playing with this new software title we’ve recently got. But that’s a good advise.

  3. I’m not a dictator here. So I hope people express their opinions more freely and exchange information like Echeevers.

  4. where are you a dictator, then?

print a few frames in low-res, crumple them, spill coffee on them, dry, smooth out, scan and replace
