It has been more than two months (two months) since we submitted a software update for DeskPics. Today, Mac App Store rejected this software update by saying the following.






The app does not achieve the core functionality described in your marketing materials or release notes.



We have found that changing the file type the screen shot is saved to requires two actions: Selecting the file type from the displayed list, then choosing the same file type (in the form of an extension) from a file name dialog. This is confusing to users, and should be simplified or clarified in the application (not in just documentation).



The App Review Board has reviewed this information ahead of time and has upheld this violation.






Mac App Store has repeatedly rejected this software update in the past two months for baseless reasons. We’ve tried very hard to explain why their rejection reasons are wrong. There is nothing more than we can do to deliver this software update to current users.

Apple, Inc. is expected to release OS X Lion this month. Some of our software titles that are available at Mac App Store may not be compatible with OS X Lion for now. Only after Apple, Inc. releases OS X Lion, we plan to work on software updates to make sure our software titles will all be compatible with Lion. The reason why we work on compatible software updates not right now but after they release Lion is that there is a long list of software titles that Apple, Inc. hasn’t reviewed. The following is a list.

At this stage, we cannot even tell when Mac App Store will finish reviewing all software titles and updates listed above. And we cannot tell when they will be ready to work on compatible software updates that we are soon to submit.

ちょうど半年前にサンワサプライのSDカード付きUSB2.0ハブを紹介しました。これは3つのUSBポートとSD/SDHC/SDXCカードリーダー機能がある面白い製品でした。ただ一つ大きな問題が。。。このUSBハブがSnow Leopard搭載のMacに繋げられた場合、コンピュータ本体が起動しない場合があります。この製品を外すとMacは起動し始めるため、すぐにまたUSBハブを繋げるというてもあるものの、そんなことマック本体の起動の度にやるのはね〜。そこで急遽近くの量販店で購入してきたのがこのELECOMの製品です。製品番号はU2H-SS4BF2WHです。（写真1参照）

まあ、ヤマダ電機に行くと似たような製品が色々売っていました。¥980だとバッファローコクヨ サプライの製品だとか。¥880でこの製品とロアスからの製品もありました。ただ半年前のマウスパッド事件以来、当サイトではロアスの製品は全て避けているため、結局このELECOMの製品になりました。ちなみにロアスの製品の箱の裏にははっきりと10.6に対応とは表示されていませんでした。   Continue reading →

モノクロのレーザープリンターであれば最近はかなり安く買うことができます。今では1万円を切るものも何点か見つけることができるようです。一方、インクジェットではなくレーザープリンターを使う利点と言うと、印刷速度が速いことと印刷面が水性ではないことが挙げられるでしょう。自分はこの9年間同じエプソン製のインクジェット・プリンターを使ってきました。未だにこのプリンターは動くし、またインク・カートリッジも販売されているものの、印刷する前にインク詰まりを掃除するのに疲れました。しかも印刷速度が遅いので、200・300ページも印刷するにはこのプリンターちょっと不適です。そこで今回紹介するのがブラザーのモノクロ・レーザープリンターで、製品番号はHL-2240Dです。

さて、何故ブラザーのレーザープリンターを購入することを決めたかを簡単にお話しします。唯一の理由はブラザーがどんな製品を作るのかに興味があったからです。ブラザーと言えば10数年前までは北米ではタイプライターで名前の通った会社でした。まあ価格が手頃だったこともあるかな〜。大体2・3年ももてばいいと考えていますが、ちょっと1万円を切る製品は買いたくありませんでした。沖電気のモノクロプリンター B2200nを買おうとも思いましたが、最終的にはブラザーのこの製品に決めました。

まず届いた箱を開けると「かんたん設置ガイド」と電源ケーブルがすぐに目に入ります。（写真1参照）箱の中を見回すと電源ケーブル以外に他のケーブルは見当たりません。USB接続のプリーターではあるものの、このプリーターにはUSBケーブルが付属していないので注意してください。まあ、自分はコンピュータの周辺機器が多数あるた故、あまったUSBケーブルがあるので、新しいケーブルを買わなくて済みました。   Continue reading →

When it comes to computer mice, I cannot think of any worse company that makes them than Apple, Inc. So I haven’t used any of them from Apple since 1999. How about (Wireless) Magic Mouse? Maybe, its design is good. But most wireless mice that are available these days come with 5 buttons or more, compared with just 2 buttons on Apple Magic Mouse. The worst part of Apple Magic Mouse is that 2 brand-new batteries lasted for just one month. Aren’t they supposed to last for what, six months?

Anyway, Swiss company Logitech offers quite affordable yet functional computer mice these days. The first one I used is Logitech Wireless M505, which I like a lot. I also bought Logitech Wireless Trackball M570 a few days ago. The one that I write a review about is Logitech Wireless Mouse M510, which I actually bought at the beginning of the year. So I’ve been using it for about 7 months. And I waited to write a review about it till today because you can’t tell whether a particular computer mouse is good or bad if you use it for just one month or so.

Interestingly, the price of Logitech Wireless Mouse M510 hasn’t changed much since I bought mine 7 months ago. I bought mine for Â¥2,980, which was the lowest at a price-comparing web site. And the same web site says that the lowest price is Â¥2,977.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M510 gives you 7 buttons. Well, technically, it’s more like 5 and a half. The wheel is clickable. (See Screenshot 1.) So that’s one. Also, you can shift this wheel to the right (Tilt right) and left (Tilt left). But you cannot access these three functions independently at the same time. On top of conventional 2 buttons, you also have Thumb Forward and Thumb Back. I don’t use these side buttons partly because these buttons are a bit stiff and also because I just realize that I don’t need them. The wheel button was initially very stiff. After pressing it 50 times or so over time, it’s not that stiff any more.   Continue reading →
