ScreenFlow 1.5.1 Improvements and Fixes
The other day, Telestream upgraded its screen-capture application to 1.5.1. The previous version was 1.2.1. According to the software developer, there are more than a dozen improvements and bug fixes. Shown below is a list of improvements officially announced by Telestream.
Let’s go over some of these improvements and fixes.
As shown in Screenshot 01, the software developer has added a sixth tab. Clicking on the Text tab, you can now add a text layer. You can change not just the font color but also the background color and opacity of the layer. (See Screenshot 02.) Unfortunately, you cannot rotate the text layer. So the angle is always 0º. Apple Releasing Safari 4.0b

TOKYO (MacHouse) – Apple, Inc. has released the beta version of the latest web browser update today. Safari 4.0b has several new features, according to the company, to catch up with other popular web browsers. Such features include Top Sites, Full History Search, Cover Flow, Tabs on Top, Smart Address Field, Smart Search Field, Full Page Zoom. The beta release is available for both Mac and Windows OS.

Mac E-mail Applications: Apple Mail or Microsoft’s Entourage?

Almost 10 years ago, I used to use Connectix‘s Virtual PC with Windows 98 to send a message with a PDF attachment to my dissertation adviser on my iMac 333 MHz. For many years, I used Mac version of Outlook and Mac-only Entourage. Nowadays, I use Apple‘s Mail more often than Entourage. As a matter of fact, I didn’t use Mail probably till 14 months ago. Oh, wait… Several years ago, I used it for a very short time. It was a horrible e-mail application. It consistently failed to send out messages. And Windows users couldn’t open my attachments. Inevitably, I had to use Microsoft Entourage.
Then comes the following question: Is Apple’s Mail still inferior to Microsoft’s Entourage? Let me ask another question. Are there any unique functions on Entourage that Apple’s Mail doesn’t have?
I had three reasons why I had to use Entourage to check and send e-mail messages. No. 1, Mail didn’t support a global search function. I sometimes wanted to find a particular old message with a key phrase. Mail didn’t let me. And Entourage did. No. 2, I sometimes had to send a message with an attachment to a PC user. PC users couldn’t open Mac attachments sent from Mail. No. 3, I had a couple of Hotmail accounts. And Entourage accesses POP as well as Hotmail accounts. Continue reading
Apple Releasing Security Update 2009-001 and Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 3

TOKYO (MacHouse) – Apple, Inc. has released the first security update of the year for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.4 terminal users and servers. This security update has a long list of improvements and fixes, covering such areas as Apple Pixlet Video, CarbonCore, CFNetwork, Certificate Assistant, ClamAV, DS Tools, Network Time, Perl, Python, Remote Apple Events, Safari RSS, SquirrelMail, X11. Meanwhile, the computer company has also released Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 3 for both Intel-based and PPC-based OS X 10.5 users already having Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 installed.
