TOKYO (Tom Bluewater) – The summer is here. The daytime temperature is expected to rise to 31 celsius (87.8 F) in the Tokyo area today. I like the summer, but the recent scorching heat is too much for me.

In order to deal with the scorching heat, I’ve developed a new iOS app. This is my first iOS app with Augmented Reality. This new release is called CrimeSceneCapture.

CrimeSceneCapture is an AR (augmented reality) app that lets you photo-document evidence at crime scenes with your iOS device (iPhone & iPad). As a crime scene investigator, it must be important for you to preserve evidence at a crime scene. Sometimes, you may find one piece of evidence or more after forensic photographers have left. What you currently have in your hand may be an iOS device and want to take photos of evidence with numbered markers. That’s the primary use of this app.

CrimeSceneCapture lets you project as many as 999 numbered cubic markers on the camera screen at a time. All it takes is a finger tap on the screen to post a numbered cubic marker with a color of your choice. It just takes another finger tap on an existing marker to remove it from the screen. Numbers are automatically incremented. Or you can set any number between 0 and 999. Furthermore, CrimeSceneCapture comes with four 3D objects (body, knife, pistol, ruler) that assist you in photo-documenting crime scenes. TOKYO (Señor Tomato) – やっと春が訪れたと思ったら最近は雨ばかり降りますね。今週も今日を含め何度か雨が降る予定のようです。皆さん、通勤や買い物に出る時は足元に気を付けてくださいね。
　さて今日も日本人の皆さんに使ってもらうことを前提にしたiPhone用のアプリを公開します。そのアプリとはゴミ出し戦隊です。
　ゴミ出し戦隊とはiPhoneとiPadで使えるゴミ出しの日程を確認するためのアプリで、日本にお住まいの方々のためにつくったものです。もちろんお住まいの自治体の支援の下で無料で配布されているアプリがあるでしょうから、「何で今更このアプリが必要なんだ？」と思うかもしれませんが、皆さんはそのアプリの機能に満足していますか？例えば医療の仕事に携わっている人達であれば、医療廃棄物の回収が定期的にあるかもしれませんが、必ずしもそのような回収が自治体配布のアプリで網羅されてはいないかもしれません。またはゴミ回収の通知は毎回は受けたくなくて、必要な時だけ自分で決めたい、という方もいるかもしれません。ゴミ出し戦隊ではその日ごとに通知を送れるようになっていて、また設定画面で予定に入れている通知をキャンセルすることもできます。何年も前のことですが、自分が不満だったのはゴミ出し予定を確認するアプリがiPadで使えなかったことです。
　また何年も前からあるアプリだと必ずしも最新の技術を使っているかわかりませんが、自治体の支援で無料で配布されているアプリではウィジットは使えますか？このアプリにはウィジットが付随しているので、アプリを起動しなくてもその週のゴミ出し日を確認することができます。
　　アプリでその週のゴミの回収の予定を確認するには、まず設定画面でご近所のゴミの回収予定を設定する必要があります。設定の仕方は本アプリの主要画面の左上にある赤い「?」ボタンをタップすることでその説明を読みことができます。ぜひご確認ください。  Continue reading →

TOKYO (Señor Tomato) – やっと冬の寒さも落ち着き、暖かさを感じる3月ですが、皆さんはいかがお過ごしでしょうか？さて久々に日本人の皆さんに使ってもらうことを前提にしたiPhone用のアプリを公開する機会ができました。トマトソフトウェアがお送りするそのアプリとは…価格追跡戦隊です。
　スーパーで買い物をしていると、ある商品に目が留まり、「この商品はあの店では幾らだったけな〜？」とか、「この商品はこの前は幾らで買ったかしら？」と思うことはありませんか？たかが1・2円でも、節約したお金も積もれば数百円にもなるとすると、同じ商品であれば1・2件の店を覗いてでも最安値で買いたいものですね。一方、幾ら数円や数百円の節約になるからとは言っても、いつまでも数ヶ月前の古いレシートを買い物時に持参する人ははいませんよね。そこで紹介するのがこの「価格追跡戦隊」で、商品の購入履歴の確認を主な目的としてつくったアプリなんです。
　アプリの使い方は簡単で、まず製品のパッケージに書かれているバーコードをカメラでスキャンし、そのバーコード番号と商品名そして製造者名を使って各々の商品を登録していきます。特定の商品の購入履歴を記録する際もまずバーコードで商品の記録を引き出します。（または商品リスト一覧から特定の商品を選択することもできます。）そして購入店（任意）と価格、購入日を記録します。特定の商品の購入履歴を確認したい場合は、バーコードで商品を特定するか商品リスト一覧から特定の商品を選択します。そして価格の推移ボタンをタップします。その製品に複数の価格の記録が存在する場合は、価格の変動を折れ線グラフで確認することができます。
　見た目はどの店でも同じような袋詰めのほうれん草も、店によってバーコードは違うかもしれません。そのよう場合はこのアプリを使って自分でその商品に対するバーコードを発行し、ファイルとしてiPhone内に書き出すことが可能です。  Continue reading →

TOKYO (Tom Bluewater) – It was terribly hot till several days ago, and it’s been quite cool lately. But I know that the scorching summer is approaching that scares me quite a bit.

Didn’t I publish a new iOS app just last week? Believe it or not, I’m ready to go for another one. This new release is called CodeBlue Reader.

Some people commute. I did that for five days a week last year. When you write lines of code at a remote office and also at home, it’s difficult to share data between two or more locations. CodeBlue 6, a desktop application that is available at Mac App Store, is useful. But you may not be able to use it at your office. In fact, last year, I went home and do some homework by using CodeBlue to PDF-print some code snippets and load them with my old iPad almost every week day. That was tiring. Well, I have a better idea. How about developing an iPad app that lets me read CodeBlue 6 data so that I don’t have to go home and do homework? So this is it.

CodeBlue Reader is an iPad-only app that lets you read a code dataset for CodeBlue 6. You can switch groups with a finger tap. The title list shows five color levels of importance besides a plain level. If necessary, export the selected code snippet as a text file so that you can share it with other apps.   Continue reading →
